About Me
Tobin Yates is a cinematographer and photographer from Charlottesville, Virginia, based in New Hampshire. While studying Environmental Studies and Climate Science at Dartmouth College, his work has taken him around the world creating documentaries and personal visual stories rooted in landscape, wildlife, and place. Tobin has worked with Dartmouth’s Communications Office as a Video Intern and the Sustainability Office as a Photo and Media Intern, and he currently assists National Geographic wildlife photographer Mike McGovern.
From outdoor interviews to aerial drone cinematography, Tobin works across mediums and thrives in challenging natural environments where creative vision meets logistical problem-solving. He shoots video and photographs to connect people to the sublime in the natural world, believing that wonder is the first step toward caring for it.
When not filming, Tobin can be found backpacking, climbing mountains, or playing tennis. In recent summers, he has hiked across Iceland, Alaska, and New Zealand while exploring the world’s alpine ecosystems.
